PUBLIC NOTICE
It
has come to the attention of the Federal Government of Nigeria that a number of
individuals are extorting money from individuals and organisations by presenting
or representing themselves as business agents of the President and the Vice
President.
President
Olusegun Obasanjo hereby disclaims any person who claims to represent him for
the purpose of doing business with any local or foreign interest or business
groups.
The
President has been elected to govern Nigeria properly for the next four years
and he intends to set a good example to all Nigerians on probity in public life
during his tenure.
While
the President desires that the world business community should participate more
actively in the development of the Nigerian economy, he insists that such
participation should follow normal avenues and channels established under the
laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
For
the avoidance of doubt, the President has no business agent or agents. All local
and foreign businessmen should therefore beware of anyone claiming to act in
such a capacity.
Any
individual or organisation wishing to do business with the Government of the
Federal Republic of Nigeria is advised to follow the stipulated procedures and
report to the Police any person who offers to subvert these procedures with the
authority of the President, Vice President, Minister or any other high-ranking
government official.
