OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT

FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA

PUBLIC NOTICE

It has come to the attention of the Federal Government of Nigeria that a number of individuals are extorting money from individuals and organisations by presenting or representing themselves as business agents of the President and the Vice President.

President Olusegun Obasanjo hereby disclaims any person who claims to represent him for the purpose of doing business with any local or foreign interest or business groups.

The President has been elected to govern Nigeria properly for the next four years and he intends to set a good example to all Nigerians on probity in public life during his tenure.

While the President desires that the world business community should participate more actively in the development of the Nigerian economy, he insists that such participation should follow normal avenues and channels established under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

For the avoidance of doubt, the President has no business agent or agents. All local and foreign businessmen should therefore beware of anyone claiming to act in such a capacity.

Any individual or organisation wishing to do business with the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is advised to follow the stipulated procedures and report to the Police any person who offers to subvert these procedures with the authority of the President, Vice President, Minister or any other high-ranking government official.
