Proposal on Activities to Celebrate 40 years of Nigeria's Independence in 

The Netherlands, Scheduled to hold from September 27 - October 2, 2000

 

THEME:  “NIGERIA AT 40:  A TIME FOR REVIVAL”

DATE:       SEPTEMBER 27 - OCTOBER 2, 2000.

Objectives of the Programme:

The main objective of this week-long programme is essentially to strengthen the bilateral economic and cultural relations between Nigeria and the Netherlands and in so doing to bring together entrepreneurs and top government functionaries of our two countries to discuss investment proposals and partnerships with a view to increasing the level of Dutch investment in Nigeria as well as generate Nigerian interest in Dutch products and vice versa.  The occasion would be used to parade the best of Nigerian art and culture to the Dutch public with a view to repositioning Nigeria in a better light within the Dutch community.

 Format:

The weeklong programme will commence with a seminar on “NIGERIA AT 40:  TOWARDS ECONOMIC REVIVAL” on September 27 - 28, 2000.  The seminar is expected to attract participants from both Nigeria and the Netherlands.  It will include the following: - Plenary Sessions, Parallel Sessions, Match-making Sessions (Face to face contact by Chief Executives of companies and business groups from Nigeria).

The seminar will also attempt to cover the following issues stated hereunder as it affects Nigeria and the Netherlands:

§         Inter-cultural aspects of doing business in Nigeria and the Netherlands;

§         Business opportunities and investment incentives in Nigeria.

§         Procedures for establishing new companies in Nigeria;

§         Import and Export guidelines in Nigeria and the Netherlands;

§         Investment and Trade opportunities:  A sectoral approach;

§         Privatisation in Nigeria;

§         Problems and prospects of doing business in Nigeria;

§         The Nigerian Stock Exchange and the search for core investors.

§         Examples of Successful partnerships “Roundtable discussion.

 

Format of Cultural Activities:

The cultural activities will commence on September 29 - October 2, 2000.  The highlights will among other things include the following:

  • Seminar on: “NIGERIA AT 40: REVIVING A NOBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE”.

              The presentations and performances will cover Nigeria’s literature, music, theatre, filmmaking, visual arts, dancing styles, etc. The seminar will be rounded off with a debate on “Nigerian Art & Culture: The Way Forward”.

  • Exhibition and display of Nigerian art work.
  • Concert/musical show by a well-known Nigerian-based group.
  • Exhibition and display of Nigerian fashion.
  • Performance/concert by a Netherlands-based Nigerian musical group.
